Just Hold On

It's that time of year again.

Navigating the streets of Burlington, the massive groups of freshman are everywhere, littering natty light cans, spewing obscenities, and generally being a disruptive nuisance to the rest of us more mature Burlington residents. The groups of horny and inebriated zombies do bring with them a sense of nostalgia that pulls ever so slightly at my heart strings. It seems like yesterday that Korey and I had left Mercy hall, longboards in hand, fueled by PBR, dubra, and the glimmer of vibrantly naive youth. If there are people on the porch, we assumed it to be a party. If they asked, Dave told us to stop by (there was always a Dave). Making this epic adventure even more thrilling was knowing that our success would mean a night full of excitement, and a brand new set of experiences and opportunities... all for the five dollar keg charge. Suspended in the void between your decaying youth and emerging adulthood, are the best nights of your life.

Those late night wanderings have since matured, grown and shifted into something that could be mistaken for growing up by the untrained eye. The truth is, I've just gotten better at it. All of the thrills and spills of those hot loud Burlington nights that never seemed to end are still alive in the cacophony of the loud music halls, the haze of dim billiards rooms, and at the corners of every dive bar with one dollar PBR specials.

My name is Amory, and I give you my word that I will not forget the spontaneous thrill that fueled those nights in the very beginning. You can still venture out with a vague direction and turn tonight into the best night of your life.

And you can still do it for five dollars.
